Desert State —
Postponed.
We've made the difficult decision to cancel our Arizona and New Mexico workshop for 2026. This wasn't a decision we took lightly — but the welfare of our participants always comes first.
Desert State was a workshop we were genuinely excited about — the American Southwest offers some of the most extraordinary light and landscape on earth, and it was going to be a remarkable week of photography with Rob and Chris.
Unfortunately, the current climate around international travel to the United States has made us unable to proceed with confidence. We've been closely monitoring travel advisories issued for UK and Irish passport holders, and after careful consideration and direct conversations with a number of our registered participants, we've decided that 2026 is not the right time to run this trip.
Entry requirements, visa processing, and the general experience of travelling to the US as a non-citizen have become significantly less predictable in recent months. We aren't prepared to ask our participants to navigate that uncertainty — particularly when significant money and annual leave are involved.
We remain committed to this workshop. Arizona and New Mexico are still on our list — the light hasn't changed. We'll revisit Desert State when the conditions are right for everyone travelling from Ireland and the UK.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and Ireland's Department of Foreign Affairs have both updated their travel guidance for the United States. We encourage anyone planning independent travel to the US to review the current advice at gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/usa and ireland.ie before making plans.
The workshop
we can't wait to run.
The iconic red rock formations at dawn and dusk — arguably the most photographed landscape in North America, and for good reason.
The American Southwest has a quality of light unlike anywhere else on earth. Golden hour, blue hour, and star trails in genuinely dark skies.
Documentary and street photography along one of the world's most mythologised roads — diners, motels, and the people who keep them alive.
The ethereal gypsum dunes of White Sands National Park — minimalist, otherworldly, and unlike anywhere else in the world to photograph.
The famous slot canyons of Arizona — learning to work with the extraordinary shafts of light that pierce the narrow sandstone passages.
The desert offers some of the darkest skies in the northern hemisphere — a full introduction to Milky Way and astrophotography.
Still want to
shoot the desert?
Desert State isn't gone — it's postponed. When the time is right and travel conditions allow, we will run this workshop. The Southwest isn't going anywhere.
